Vatican City
   This term designates the world's smallest state (approximately 109 acres), where the residence of the Popeand many offices of the Curia of the Roman Catholic Church are located. Vatican City was officially established by the Lateran Treaty of 1929, which recognized the Pope's territorial sovereignty over Vatican City and several extraterritorial buildings in Rome and its environs.
